I come across some lovely photographs with my restoration work and this one is certainly no exception.

The original photograph is dated 1917 and family records indicate that the subject is Signalman H.W.D. Butler, Royal Corp of Signals Reserve of the Camel Corps, 53 Welsh Division, General Allenby, British Forces, Palestine Campaign.

The original photograph was presented in a cardboard frame with a hard plastic cover.  On first viewing I thought the image would be difficult to restore as it appeared to be covered in yellow and brown spots but fortunately, theses marks were on the plastic which could be easily removed without damaging the photograph.  The print itself was in quite good condition.  Those pieces missing were in non-critical areas and tears and creases were easily fixed.  I replaced the featureless sky and adjusted exposure, using dodge and burn techniques to highlight areas of particular interest.

Thank you to Jenny Carson and family for allowing me to share this wonderful image.   Now restored, your family will be able to enjoy this image for generations to come.
